Life is not a funny business.|
A young Muslim man works in his father’s fabric shop in Fordsburg, Johannesburg. In the family tradition, Riaad, as the only son, is expected to take over the family business from his father. He's a respectful son and hasn't considered any alternatives – this is his life and his destiny. One night, however, through a series of coincidences, he lands up doing an open-mic session at a local comedy club. He discovers a hidden talent for comedy, sparking a passion within him like nothing before in his life.
The encouragement he receives to continue in comedy brings him into conflict, not only with his father, but with other family members and some elements of his community.
This is the story of a family grappling with universal issues such as identity, responsibility and duty.
